The Portable Service Panel is a portable instrument that allows user access to one or all analyzers or Input/Output (I/O) Units on the Data Hiway. Through the PSP, data can be displayed, modified, and (using an Application Cartridge) uploaded to or downloaded from an analyzer. In another mode of operation, the PSP can be used to modify the application programming.
The PSP has a two-line, 40-character Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) that displays data and messages in English. Backlighting and viewing-angle adjustments make the LCD display readable even in dimly lit areas.
The PSP has two modes of operation, with separate keyboards for each. A maintenance mode keyboard is permanently attached to the PSP. It allows a person to perform all of the system operation and maintenance functions.
A removable keyboard overlay is provided for application modification work. It has complete alpha and numeric keypads, with second-functions giving all the BASIC language statements and data base table names used by the system. Another keypad provides special program-handling keys plus many of the maintenance mode keys.
A key-lock switch provides protection for the application program. In the locked position, the user can perform only operation and maintenance functions. In the unlocked position, the user can display and modify the data base tables and programs. Additional security can be obtained by internal switch settings that allow access only to selected analyzers.
The PSP is housed in a metal and plastic case with a magnetic backing for easy attachment and removal from an analyzer or any other ferrous metal surface. A flexible cable from the PSP plugs into a sealed bulkhead connector on the analyzer. This connects the PSP electrically to the Panel Intrinsic Barrier inside the Analyzer Controller Door Assembly, allowing the PSP to be plugged in or removed safely in a hazardous location.
A connector on the side of the PSP allows an intrinsically-safe attachment of an Application Cartridge. Data can be uploaded from or downloaded to an Application Cartridge through the PSP when the key-lock is in the unlocked position.
When not in use, the PSP can be left attached to an analyzer, or removed and stored in a carrying case for safekeeping.
